The fourth grade classroom that I am hosting in has been such a great experience for me. My host teacher has her computer hooked up to the television (mounted on the wall), and it has a sentence with a underlined word that shows up on the television screen. The students need to write down the sentence in their journals, and then think of synonyms that are associated with the underlined word. The children have so much fun doing this activity, and all of the students have a chance to be involved and respond. She writes the words that the children came up with, and then she goes on a website that has all the synonyms words, and together they see if they came up with all the words.
