One of the great things I got to be a part of in my host classroom was a guided reading. This was done in groups of three based on reading levels. Each student would take turns reading a page. While they were reading the teacher would keep a running record to keep track of fluency. I thought that my teacher did an excellent job at asking questions throughout the story and making sure that they could comprehend what was happening in the story. After watching the guided reading I got to do my own. I had the group read the story and I came up with two activities for comprehension of the story. One was a puzzle. I photo copied some pictures and had the students put them in order as it was in the story. For the other activity I used magnetic letters and had them spell out vocabulary words from the book. I was greatful that my lesson went well and the students were engaged and able to perform the activities.
